Skywatcher Explorer 200P
This telescope is a Newtonian reflector design, which means that it uses mirrors and not lenses to capture light. It is an open tube design with the secondary mirror held at the front of the tube in line with the focuser, and the primary mirror seated at the rear of the tube.
The primary mirror has a parabolic curve with a focal ratio of f5, which means that its focal length (1000mm) is 5 times its diameter (200mm). This mirror captures light coming in to the tube and reflects it back up the tube to the flat secondary mirror. The secondary is positioned to reflect the light cone out to the side of the tube into the focuser where it either passes through an eyepiece for viewing, or is captured by a camera.
